JACKSON COUNTY CHAPTER
CONSTITUTIONAL/BY LAWS

Purpose
The purpose of this organization is to promote fellowship among the retired teaches of Jackson County, to sponsor and support such legislation in Ohio as shall contribute to the comfort and welfare of the retired teachers of the state; to solicit members and to accept dues from; and to cooperate with the Ohio Retired Teachers Association in meeting their goals and objectives.
Article I Meetings
The regular meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of April, June, September, and November. Decisions as to where to hold the meetings will be at the discretion of the officers.
Article II Quorum
At all meetings the group present shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business.
Article III Election of Officers
1. The president shall appoint a nominating committee at the June meeting. The nominating committee shall report in September when the officers are elected. The officers shall be installed at the November meeting.
2. Officers shall be elected for a two year term.
3. The vice-president becomes the president in the even year.
4. The vice-president is elected in the odd year.
5. The treasurer is elected in the even year, term to begin in January of the odd year.
6. The secretary is elected in the odd years.
Article IV Duties of the President
It shall be the duty of the president to preside at all meetings, to sign the records thereof, to carry out the instructions of the members and, in general, to perform all the duties indicative to such an office. The president shall recruit chairs and committee members, make contacts for all meeting places and prepare the chapter handbook for the two years as president. The president shall call executive and/or board meetings when needed.
Article V Duties of the Vice President
The vice president shall collect all dues money at the door for each meeting and convey the money to the treasurer. The vice president shall also prepare, conduct, and collect the money for the split the pot.
Article VI Duties of the Secretary
It shall be the duty of the secretary to keep an accurate record of all the proceedings of all meetings, and in general, perform all duties pertaining to that office. The secretary shall also advertise the meetings via social media, print, and radio.
Article VII Duties of the Treasurer
The treasurer shall receive and safely keep all money belonging to the organization and shall disburse the same as authorized by the organization.
Article VIII Membership
All teachers drawing allowance from the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio and all teachers retired in any other state, but living in Ohio, are eligible for membership on the payment of annual dues. Other persons in Ohio favorably interested in retired teachers’ problems and well-being may become associate members by paying the regular chapter membership dues and may have the same privileges as active members except the right to vote and hold office.
